Song for a Beer
03:26
|
|||
I will play you a song for a beer
A price that anyone can pay
One more song for a beer
and drink to yesterday
Remember your first rock 'n' roll show
The band was hopping, bass was dropping, drummer was on a roll
The guitar riffs and singer’s lips were
Making sounds all around everybody knew their hits
It seems so long since anyone
Has ever played set even close to that
Cover band who rocked you and
Had nothing much to say just that they would-
Play you a song for a beer
A price that anyone can pay
For a song for a beer
and drink to yesterday
Nicky Sixx or some Sublime? David Bowie’s on my mind.
Rolling Stones, Nickelback. AC/DC, Godsmack!
Men! At! Work! And! Jack! Son! Five!
Guns N’ Roses and Nirvana! Dylan, Young, Americana!
CBGB’s has gone down!
Like so many artists but their music is still around. .
… So let’s not let them be forgot!
Before I go away I'd like to-
Play you a song for a beer
A price that anyone can pay
For a song for a beer
and drink to yesterday
*Banter Interlude*
… Before I go away I’d still like to-
Play you a song for a beer
A price that anyone can pay
For a song for a beer
and drink to yesterday
(I will) Play you a song for a beer
A price that anyone can pay
For a song for a beer
and drink to yesterday
Drink to yesterday...

Intangible

|

Take a trip through the alley with graffiti walls
From the wannabe rebels who forgot their cause
Where the sound of the trains keeps getting louder
And the stupid people just keep getting prouder and I
Hmm Hmmm Hmm... keeps getting prouder and I
Hmm Hmmm Hmm...
And the drunk on the corner of seventh and eighth
Is the only person to whom I can relate
With his Gospel of the end of days
Eloquently whispered through a whiskey haze and I
Hmm Hmmm Hmm... A whiskey haze
Hmm Hmmm Hmm...
The drugs don’t work, but nothing does
So, you take them anyway because
Of the way they used to make you feel
Intangible and priceless like something real and I
Take my hand... Like something real
Take my hand… Like something
Remember that girl, I forgot her name,
But the way she used to drive you insane
Was nothing short of a work of art
She’d pick you up first and then pull you apart and I
Hmm Hmmm Hmm... pull you apart and I
Hmm Hmmm Hmm…
We’d walk down to the liquor store
It’s the same as every one before
With the only thing that satiates our hunger and the
Bottles that shine like a cave of wonders and I
Hmm Hmmm Hmm... A cave of wonders and I
Hmm Hmmm Hmm...
She doesn’t love you anymore
But, you find yourself always at her door
From the way she used to make you feel
Intangible and priceless like something real and I
Take my hand... Like something real
Take my hand… Like something
So, you take the guilt and I’ll take the blame
And we’ll wind up someplace that is roughly the same
With our childish fears and adult regrets
Don't say it's over cause we ain't done yet and I
Hmm Hmmm Hmm... ain't done yet
Hmm Hmmm Hmm...
Well you pass through the alley with graffiti walls
From the wannabee rebels who forgot their cause
Where the sound of the trains keeps getting louder
And the stupid people just keep getting prouder and I
Hmm Hmmm Hmm... Keep getting prouder and I
Hmm Hmmm Hmm...
The drugs don’t work, but nothing does
So, you take them anyway because
Of the way they used to make you feel
Intangible and priceless like something real
She doesn’t love you anymore
But, you find yourself always at her door
For the way she used to make you feel
Intangible and priceless like something real and I
Take My Hand... Like something real
Take My Hand... Like something real
Take My Hand... Like something real
Take My Hand... Intangible

Jessica

Jessica was a bright eyed girl. Full of idle dreams.
Born just outside of Wichita, and raised in New Orleans.
Never said much of nothing, but I know this much is true
Jessica, no one could dance quite like you.
She started dancing when she was young. Not much more than three.
She grew up fast with no money then so she learned on Bourbon St.
In worn out shoes and on broken glass, but she smiled all the same.
Jessica, everyone here remembers your name.
When someone like that comes into your life it changes your point of view.
You start to see less of what you have and more of what you do.
I would give damn near anything if I could live that moment again.
To see you smile and dance a while the way she did back then…
Eventually, you were smooth enough to make yourself a name.
Some money here, some classes there, and the chance to dance on stage.
At first glance nobody knew what anyone could see in you
But Jessica, when you danced the world did too.
You made your way through dance contests, magazines, and TV shows
And the more you did and the more you danced, the more your smile would grow
No one could take their eyes off you and no matter where you’d go
You’re still the girl that everyone wants to know
You danced your heart out until the day that your ankles both gave out
You fell to the floor and to the gasps and applause coming from the crowd
You left the lights and you left the stage but that smile never left you
Jessica, no one could dance quite like you.
So, you’re married now and you got 3 kids who all look up to you
They look a lot like your man, but they smile just like you
And you still dance but only with them and I guess that that will do
Jessica, no one can dance quite like you.
No, Jessica. No one could dance quite like you.
No, Jessica. No one could ever dance like you.

I got a cigarette lit
In the open night
Try to tell me I’m wrong
When I think it’s right.
Let me hear my name
In a poured out shot
You try to be that angel
That I know you’re not.
Got the windows down.
Drive all night long
Tell the world I’m gone
‘Til the break of dawn.
Hear her scream my name
Find my way home
But my ride’s on path
Down the open road.
Every story that passes me
On this ride
Harlots, and screamers, and demons
Tempt me on this night
Take me down to
The pipes of my Uncle’s bog
Drown myself in his
Moonshine and golden grog
Got the windows down.
Drive all night long
Tell the world I’m gone
‘Til the break of dawn.
Hear her scream my name
Find my way home
But my ride’s on path
Down the open road.
One drink gone, good times in store.
Two drinks in, and I ask for more
Three drinks or four, reach out for the door
Last one and I’m down, too sick and sore
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Got the windows down.
Drive all night long
Tell the world I’m gone
‘Til the break of dawn.
Hear her scream my name
Find my way home
But my ride’s on path
Down the open road.

No Glory
05:00
|

I know the smell of gunsmoke
The powder stains my hands
Never seen the color of gold
Save for blood & shells in the sand
I know, I know, I know there’s No Glory
I know, I know the truth
I know, I know, I know the whole story
I know, I know, I know, I know I know I know
I can tell a fellow soldier
From the way he walks
Like he’s one foot in the grave
The other on loose rocks
I can tell you stories of lands
No man should ever go
But I can’t tell you what I’ve done ‘cause
I know, I know, I know, I know I know I know
I know the smell of gunsmoke
From my right hand man
His eyes are quick, he’s been in the business
Longer than I have
I know, I know, I know there’s No Glory
I know, I know the truth
I know, I know, I know the whole story
I know, I know, I know, I know
I wouldn’t call myself a gangster
Though I’ve spilt some blood
It keeps my family safe and it’s more
Than we’re deserving of
And I can take away anything
Any man could ever love
But I can’t give back anything and
I know, I know, I know, I know I know I know
Never knew the smell of gunsmoke
It isn’t of my trade
The men who do live and die
While I just smile and wave
I know, I know, I know there’s No Glory
I know, I know the truth
I know, I know, I know the whole story
I know, I know, I know, I know
I’ll promise you anything
As long as you’ll chant my name
A politician, man, that’s all that I am
Just a player in the game
At day I lie, at night I cheat,
In the end it’s all the same
I’m ashamed of everything ‘cause
I know, I know, I know, I know I know
There’s nothing here for me, there’s No Glory
Yes I know the truth
I’ll tell you what you need, the whole story
I know, I know, I know….
Ooooh… I know, I know, I know.
Ooooh… I know, I know, I know.
Ooooh… I know, I know, I know.
Ooooh… I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know.
I know! I know!
I know! I know!
I know! I know!

You play some guitar to say who you are is an artist
And no one gets you
You write some songs and say to sing along to the chorus
Like we like you
You don’t care about anything but yourself
You’re apathetic
You don’t care about anyone but yourself
You’re melodramatic
You think you’re special
So fuckin’ special
You think you’re special
So fuckin’ special
You sing your verse that you’ve rehearsed to be perfect
And applauded
You think they all must be in awe of your rhetoric
But no one caught it
You don’t think about anything but yourself
You’re narcissistic
You don’t think about anyone but yourself
You’re egotistic
You think you’re special
So fuckin’ special
You think you’re special
So fuckin’ special
And you sing into the crowd about how your so brooding and deep and you
Love to tell us how much better you are and how hard it is to be you
You don’t love anything but yourself
You’re hedonistic
You don’t love anyone but yourself
You’re chauvinistic
You think you’re special
So fuckin’ special
You think you’re special
So fuckin’ special
You think that you’re special!
You think that you’re special!
But you’re not special....
You’re just... a.... DICK!!
